Amid the ongoing massive protest against the three farm bills enacted by the centre, the Kisan Ekta Morcha on Sunday alleged that social media giant Facebook has shut down the official account used by the protesting farmers to circulate updates on the daily agitations. Taking to the Twitter account, the Kisan Ekta Morcha said “Now this is #TooMuchDemocracy. A peaceful protest by #Kissan & @Facebook deletes @Kisanektamorcha Facebook page #Shame #WhereisDemocracy #DigitalKissan”
It is pertinent to mention that Kisan Ekta Morcha is one the biggest pages being used for the movement with over 7 lakh followers. Their Instagram page, which is also owned by Facebook, even shared a screenshot of the notice flashed on their social media page after their accounts being allegedly blocked.
The head of the IT wing of the movement, Baljeet Singh confirmed the development saying “Kisan Morcha is a peaceful agitation. The official digital platform of Kisan Mukti Morcha has been blocked without prior notification”
This has come at the time when questions are being raised about Facebook’s alleged bias towards the Bharatiya Janata Party.
Meanwhile, Bharatiya Kisan Union leader Jagjit Singh Dallewala on Sunday appealed the public to beat ‘thali’ at their homes on December 27, during Prime Minister Modi’s Mann Ki Baat to mark their protest against the three farm bills.
“We would appeal to everyone to beat ‘thali’ at their homes till the time he speaks during the program,” Jagjit Singh Dalewala said, adding that toll plazas in Haryana will be free from December 25 to December 27. At the same time, Rakesh Tikait urged people to skip a meal on Kisan Diwas, celebrated on December 23.
